South Korean autoparts companies held a trade show in Detroit and Toronto this week to promote their products in the North American market, a state-run trade and investment promotion agency said Friday

Korea Autoparts Plaza was held in Toronto Tuesday and Detroit Thursday with the participation of 51 South Korean autoparts firms that make information technology, new materials and powertrain parts for car engines, transmissions, drive shafts, suspension and wheels, the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency said.

As many as 85 major North American auto and autoparts manufacturers, including GM, Ford and leading global automotive supplier Magma, were present at the trade show KOTRA said.

The trade promoter also organized a forum in Toronto on better ways for South Korean autoparts firms to make inroads into the North American market.

"South Korean autoparts companies need to consider investing in the United States to overcome ever rising trade barriers," an industry source said. (Yonhap)
