Poland and Austria vowed to cooperate closely with South Korea to implement United Nations Security Council sanctions on North Korea, denouncing the communist nation's continued provocations, the foreign ministry in Seoul said Thursday.
South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha met with Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski and Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz in New York on Wednesday on the occasion of their attendance at the UN General Assembly.

In the separate meetings, the ministers condemned North Korea's sixth nuclear test on Sept. 3 and called for strong countermeasures against Pyongyang.
Kang also agreed that South Korea will closely cooperate with Poland and Austria in resolving North Korean nuclear issues, including the implementation of UN sanctions resolutions.

The Polish minister stressed that more sanctions and pressure are needed to be taken against Pyongyang and the Austrian minister expressed his government's willingness to help South Korea resolve the security problem.
Hopes for closer economic ties and exchanges between South Korea and the two countries were also expressed during the talks, the ministry said. (Yonhap)
