1. 북한 고위대표단, 아시안게임 깜짝 방문

Hopes grow for inter-Korean thaw 

[1] An inter-Korean agreement Saturday to resume high-level dialogue has created much-needed momentum for a thaw in cross-border relations, but doubts linger over the possibility of a breakthrough as Pyongyang sticks to its nuclear ambitions, analysts said Sunday.

2. 삼성전자 실적 하락 

기사요약: 삼성전자는 7일 3,4분기 실적공시를 통해 3분기 매출액은 47조원, 영업이익은 4조천억원으로 집계됐다고 잠정 발표했다. 분기별 영업익이 5조원대 밑으로 떨어진 것은 2011년 4분기 이후 약 3년 만에 처음이다. 화면이 커진 아이폰 6 출시와 중국 중저가 브랜드의 성장이 삼성의 스마트폰 사업의 영향을 준 것이라는 분석이 나오고 있다.

[1] As was widely expected, Samsung Electronics estimated its third quarter operating profit will fall significantly both on-year and on-quarter as the company’s flagship smartphone business continues to struggle with market saturation and the emergence of strong new rivals.

[2] On Tuesday, the world’s largest smartphonemaker put its quarterly operating profit at 4.1 trillion won ($3.8 billion) to reflect an almost 60 percent fall on-year. [1] Surging levels of carbon dioxide sent greenhouse gases in the atmosphere to a new record in 2013, while oceans, which absorb the emissions, have become more acidic than ever, the UN said on Tuesday.
