Police said it found traces of activity by a National Intelligence Service agent connected to online posts about the presidential election.
The employee came under fire over allegations that she had posted negative online comments about the Democratic United Party presidential candidate Moon Jae-in.
The opposition party’s officials surrounded the agent’s house, virtually putting Kim under house arrest for two days without presenting evidence, just ahead of the presidential election last month.
The DUP faced attacks from both NIS and the ruling Saenuri Party for entering a personal residence and engaging in what they called “propaganda.”
Although Kim said she was politically neutral and did not engage in an online smear campaign, the police launched an investigation at the request of the opposition party.
“After tracking down 40 different IDs and usernames found on Kim’s computer hard disk, we found her trace on online posts about the presidential election. However, it is hard to confirm whether she uploaded slanderous posts about the presidential candidate,” said Kwon Eun-hee, a police officer from Suseo police station.
“Apart from online comments, we suspected a violation of election campaign laws and felt the need for additional investigation,” Kwon said.
Police said Thursday that Kim expressed her view 250 times by clicking suggestion or opposition icons since the end of August, using 20 different IDs.
Police is set to summon Kim again for further investigation on Friday afternoon.

“김씨의 하드디스크에서 발견된 아이디와 닉네임 40개를 인터넷에서 검색한 결과 대선과 관련된 온라인 글에서 김씨의 흔적을 찾았다. 하지만 전 대선후보를 비방하는 글을 올렸다고 확인하기는 어렵다,”고 수서경찰서의 권은희 경찰관이 말했다.
“댓글과는 별도로 불법선거운동으로 보이는 정황이 포착되어 수사의 필요성을 느꼈다,”고 권씨는 덧붙였다.
경찰은 김씨가 지난 8월 말부터 지난달 10일까지 아이디 20개를 골고루 써가며 인터넷 커뮤니티 게시글에 추천이나 반대 모양의 아이콘을 클릭하는 방식으로 총 250번의 의견을 표명했다고 3일 밝혔다.
