Samsung Electronics Co. said Sunday it will introduce a new Galaxy smartphone at an industry exhibition in Germany this week as it seeks to win consumers for fourth-generation (4G), super-fast wireless service.
Samsung will unveil the 4G version of the Galaxy S II smartphone at the IFA electronics show beginning Thursday in Berlin, the company said in a statement.
"This is a milestone in our commitment to lead the charge in 4G mobile telephony around the world, both in terms of back-end network solutions for service providers and the development of powerful consumer handsets," said J.K. Shin, chief of Samsung's handset division, in a statement.
Smartphone manufacturers are jostling to win a bigger slice of the super-fast wireless service using the 4G mobile technology called long term evolution (LTE).
Later this year, Samsung will also start selling an LTE-version of its tablet computer, according to the statement.
Shin said the 4G service "redefines the user experience made possible by these devices and opens entirely new possibilities in terms of content viewing, sharing, quality and connectivity." (Yonhap News)

삼성전자가 4세대(4G) 이동통신인 LTE( Long Term Evolution) 기반의 첨단 모바일 기기를 선보이며 차세대 통신시장 공략을 강화한다.
삼성전자는 다음달 2일 독일 베를린에서 열리는 가전전시회 '이파(IFA) 2011'에 서 스마트폰 '갤럭시S2 LTE'를 선보이고 하반기에는 태블릿 '갤럭시탭 8.9 LTE'를 출시할 계획이라고 28일 밝혔다.
지난해 9월 LTE 휴대전화 '크래프트'를 선보인 삼성은 스마트폰과 태블릿에도 L TE 통신 기능을 탑재해 4G 시장을 주도한다는 계획이다.
'갤럭시S2 LTE'는 LTE·WCDMA·GSM 멀티모드를 지원하며 4.5인치 슈퍼 아몰레드 플러스, 1.5기가헤르츠(㎓) 듀얼코어, 대용량 배터리 등을 탑재했다.
안드로이드 진저브레드 플랫폼을 탑재했으며 근거리 통신기술인 NFC와 블루투스 3.0, 와이파이, 800만화소 카메라, 플래시 기능 등을 지원한다.
'갤럭시탭 8.9 LTE'는 지난 3월 미국에서 공개된 '갤럭시탭 8.9'의 LTE 버전으 로 최신 안드로이드 허니콤 3.2를 운영체제로 채택했다.
8.6mm의 두께와 455g의 무게로 휴대성을 강화했으며 8.9인치 WXGA(1280×800) 디스플레이, 1.5㎓ 듀얼코어 프로세서, 300만 화소 카메라 등을 갖췄다.
삼성전자 관계자는 "삼성전자는 휴대전화, 스마트폰, 태블릿 등 LTE 단말기 풀 라인업으로 선택의 폭을 넓히고 차별화된 경험을 제공할 계획"이라며 "다양한 서비 스와 콘텐츠로 차세대 이동통신 시장 주도권을 확고히 할 것"이라고 말했다.
