PDT Redondo Beach, Calif. (AP) --Police in Redondo Beach say a 95-year-old man is doing well after being stung more than 400 times by a swarm of bees.
Sgt. Phil Keenan said the man was walking near his home Wednesday afternoon when the bees attacked him. He said the bees were probably agitated by a fumigator who was trying to exterminate a hive in an apartment roof.
The elderly man was taken to a hospital in Torrance where he was treated and released.
Keenan says vector control workers believe the bees were Africanized bees because of their aggressive behavior.

(로스앤젤레스=연합뉴스) 권 훈 특파원= 미국의 90대 노인이 말벌에 무려 400번이 넘게 쏘이고도 목숨을 건졌다.
미국 로스앤젤레스 레돈도비치 경찰서는 루이스 토데로(95)란 이름의 노인이 길을 가다 말벌의 일종인 킬러비(killer bee)에 400∼500번을 쏘여 병원으로 옮겨졌지만 무사하다고 25일 (현지시간) 밝혔다.
토데로는 24일 낮 2시40분께 동네를 산책하다 아파트 지붕 아래에 집을 짓고 살던 벌떼의 공격을 받았다.
병원 관계자는 그의 생명에 지장이 없고 26일께 퇴원할 예정이라고 말했다.
당시 토데로의 신체 부위 가운데 노출된 부위는 빠짐없이 벌침이 꽂혔다고 딸 루이즈 토데로는 말했다.
그녀는 "목, 팔, 심지어는 눈에도 벌침이 박혔다"면서 "살아남은 게 다행"이라고 덧붙였다.
한편 이 벌들이 살던 벌집은 소방관들이 출동해 제거했다.
